Fly High or Fly Low, this little Cobra was photographed primarily at the Dallas Love Field Frontiers of Flight Museum. The driver's roll bar on these cars is polished stainless steel and is bolted to the frame. This is your opportunity to own an exceptional Backdraft Cobra. This particular car is turn-key. Less than 1,300 miles have been logged on this car.
This high performance street drivetrain features a 302 cubic inch V8 with extras. A Holley 4bbl. carburetor feeds the air/fuel mixture to an aluminum Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake manifold. Ignition duties are more than handled by a pro-billet distributor and MSD Blaster Coil. A performance cam gives the car a perfect power curve. The horsepower is estimated at 350, more than enough to get this Cobra moving in a hurry. The valve covers are classic finned aluminum with Ford Racing script. A serpentine belt system & chromed pullies drive the alternator and water pump Further inspection of the engine compartment will confirm clean and detailed quality components throughout. Custom polished coolant hoses are paired with a polished billet overflow for the cooling system.
Open the doors to ultra-high-performance, spartan amenities, and leather appointments. This is a true driver's machine. The Backdraft Racing bodies boast a 92-inch wheelbase with extra cockpit space so most driver's can fit comfortably, including my 6 ft 2" frame. These Halibrand-style machine polished wheels are fitted with B.F. Goodrich high performance radial T/A's sized at 295/50R15 out back with 235/60R15s up front.
This Cobra sounds magnificent and performs just as well. Be sure to play the video/sound portion of our description to hear this AMAZING car. This car is optioned with the ceramic-coated side exhaust system. Not an ordinary kit car, the Backdraft racing Cobra's are all about quality and precision. The body itself is tediously worked, smoothed and fitted to perfection. Today, prices can run approximately $45,000 for a rolling chassis/body without a drivetrain. The chassis and suspension are amazing underneath these cars. BMW components are used extensively for a precise ride quality and handling characteristics. The fit & finish of this car is superb.
The custom ladder-style frame provides enough rigidity to ensure optimum road handling. This car features full independent rear suspension and front coil-over struts. The chassis is very special in this car. The undercarriage showcases a full rectangular-tube frame with BMW-type suspension components. Forget a Bimmer, THIS is an ultimate driving machine. If you've ever get the opportunity to drive a Backdraft Cobra, you will understand. Look at the quality and detail throughout this car in our photographs. Also, don't forget to play the video. This suspension is top-tier. Note the anti-roll bars and rack & pinion steering system.
This is a garage-kept and cared for example. Although completed and sold new in 2004, less than 1,300 miles have been logged on this car. The interior is beautiful. The padded & leather-wrapped dash displays classic black-face autometer gauges and a push-button start switch. Amenities are few. There is a functional horn, wipers, turn signals, and headlights. The shift knob is classic Cobra, configured in the vintage style but paired with a modern Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. This is a very sweet shifting and driving car, needless to say.
The red leather seating is clean and detailed throughout. You can see some wear on the contrasting piping that traces the seating on the driver's side. The leather itself is excellent throughout, as is the carpeting and door panels. The Cobra was in good company during our photoshoot with the Huey helicopter, two un-mistakable & iconic 1960's American images.
Experimental aircraft and this Cobra has be quite a handful for a novice pilot. The Backdraft cars are superior in every way to its competitors, especially in the chassis department. This car is a pleasure to drive. The battery is mounted in the rear, a racing tradition. You can also see where the roll bar extends and affixes to the frame.
